Senior Accountant – Houston (hybrid) – $80,000 – $90,000

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join their Finance team. As a Senior Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records. This is a hybrid position, offering a mix of on-site and remote work to provide flexibility to the successful candidate.

Responsibilities:

1) Financial Reporting:

• Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Generate regular financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and university policies.

2) Budget Management:

• Collaborate with department heads to develop and monitor budgets.
• Track budget variances and provide detailed analysis.
• Assist in the preparation of budget proposals and forecasts.

3) General Ledger Maintenance:

• Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
• Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Perform month-end and year-end close processes.

4) Audit Support:

• Facilitate external and internal audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
• Implement audit recommendations and ensure corrective actions are taken.

5) Compliance:

• Stay current on accounting regulations and ensure compliance.
• Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard university assets.

6) Financial Analysis:

• Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
• Provide insights and recommendations to improve financial performance.

7) Process Improvement:

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains.
• Implement best practices in financial management.

8) Training and Mentorship:

• Provide guidance and training to junior accounting staff.
• Foster a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the team.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a senior accounting role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial accounting principles.
• Experience with accounting software and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
